AOCC 2024: Nuestras Historias: Perspectives of Young Latina Students Presenter: Alejandra Ramos Gómez (HGSE) Co-presenters: Students from the Veronica Robles Cultural Center Camille, Daniela ,Danna, Luna, Mariana and Valentina

FRIDAY & SATURDAY, MARCH 1ST & 2ND, 2024

During this session, attendees will learn about the perspective of Latina middle school students, leaders and dancers from VROCC through a session featuring a short performance and student panel. They will present their poetry and narrative texts about embracing joy and resistance. The goal is for them to share more about their identities and the role solidarity plays in their growth as members of a comunidad and navigating the U.S. context as first-generation immigrants. Further, during a student-led panel discussion, the featured students will talk about their creative process and the role of the arts in fostering agency.

They are members of a Leadership Council and attend a weekly bilingual leadership class where they talk about authentic representation and the importance of sharing their perspectives for social impact.

AOCC 2024: Sesión Nuestras Historias: Perspectivas de Jóvenes Estudiantes Latinas

Viernes y sábado, 1 y 2 de marzo de 2024

Durante esta sesión, la audiencia aprenderá sobre la perspectiva de las estudiantes, líderes y bailarinas Latinas de VROCC a través de una sesión que incluye una breve presentación y un panel de discusión. Presentarán su poesía o textos narrativos sobre cómo abrazar la alegría y la resistencia.

El objetivo es que compartan más sobre sus identidades y el papel que juega la solidaridad en su crecimiento como miembros de una comunidad y navegando el contexto estadounidense como inmigrantes de primera generación. Además, durante el panel de discusión, las estudiantes hablarán sobre su proceso creativo y el rol de las artes en la agencia.

Las presentadoras son miembros de un Consejo de Liderazgo y asisten a una clase semanal de liderazgo bilingüe donde hablan sobre la representación auténtica y la importancia de compartir sus perspectivas para el impacto social.

Veronica Robles Cultural Center (VROCC) presents “2024 Dia de Muertos,” New England’s largest multi-day “Day of the Dead Celebration”, offering a series of activities to immerse in this thoughtful tradition honoring our ancestors and deceased loved ones. This year VROCC marks its 12th year bringing this rich tradition for everyone to enjoy.

VROCC’s “Dia de Muertos” multi-day, multi-site series includes Altar installations and exhibitions, a Catrina’s Parade, a Festival, workshops, and lectures comprising spoken word, dance, music, theater, artmaking, technology, and culinary experiences.

Events will take place from October 2nd through November 3rd. 2024. 

Timeline

Every Wednesday between October 2nd and 23th

  • Activity: Mural making Mosaics ( Telling our stories) 
  • Goal: Complete the mural by October 23rd. And install on Saturday October 26th 
  • Time: 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm 
  • Location: VROCC

Friday  October 11 and 18th

  • Activity: Catrina makeup workshops for volunteers helping on Sunday, November 3rd
  • Time: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
  • Location: VROCC

Saturday October 12th 

  • Activity: Organizing Material 
  • Goal: Organize material and  Basement for Dia de Muertos activities and Festival  
  • Time: 10 am – 2:00 pm 
  • Location: VROCC

Every Saturday from October 12th to 26th

  • Activity: Mojiganga Making / ( mosaics) 
  • Goal: Upgrade Catrinas, Skulls & Judas stored in the basement and create 2 Mojigangas
  • Time: 12 am – 2:00 pm 
  • Location: VROCC

Thursday  October 24th 

  • Activity: Folklorico and Mexican Dance Rehearsal for the festival and the Parade on Sunday November 3rd. (Experienced dancers are welcomed to join) 
  • Time: 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
  • Location: VROCC

Friday, October 25th

  • Activity: Night of the Catrinas with Illuminus at VROCC
  • Location:  8 pm lights at VROCC, 9 pm after hours
  • Details: Cash Bar only, DJ, and Catrinas Contest

 Sunday, November 3rd

Event 1: ICA Exhibition – HUMAS

  • Activity: Exhibition of the altars at the ICA
  • Time: 10-4pm event
  • Location: ICA Watershed 256 Marginal St. East Boston

Event 2: Viva La Vida Parade from ICA to Central Sq. Park 

  •  Leave at 1:00 pm:  Dance and music groups 

Event 3 :Central Sq. Park Dia de Muertos Festival

  •  Live Music, Catrinas Parade, Dance, Vendors ( trucks) 
  • Location: VROCC and Central Sq.park
  • Time: 1 pm – 8 pm
