My team and I had the opportunity to attend the opening reception of “The Procession”, the new art installation at Institute of Contemporary Art Boston created by the artist Hew Locke.
This colorful and captivating exploration of history, heritage, and identity was first commissioned by Tate Britain, UK, and made its North American debut at the ICA Watershed on Tuesday May 21st.
I am thrilled to announce that @Veronica Robles Cultural Center will be part of “The Procession,” exploring several cultures of Latin America through a mask-making workshop as part of the Watershed Block Party on July 13th. Additionally, we will offer a dance workshop on August 11th, focusing on “Caporales of the Andes,” and an interactive educational program providing a historical overview and a dance workshop.
The goal of these workshops is to foster an appreciation for the exhibition and its connection with Latin American cultures.
The elaborated 140 life-size sculptures of masked figures of all ages and abilities adorned in printed fabrics and embroideries—Caribbean carnival queens, dancers, refugees, horseback-mounted military figures, fishers, laborers, pregnant women, children, drummers, and flag bearers invite audiences to dig into the complex narratives woven into each creation.
Locke’s work resonates through the representation of cultural symbols, historical figures, and geopolitical elements, offering a unique perspective on the enduring impact of colonialism and the complexities of identity.

Mi equipo y yo tuvimos la oportunidad de asistir a la inauguración de “The Procession”, la nueva instalación artística en el Instituto de Arte Contemporáneo de Boston, creada por el artista Hew Locke.
Esta colorida y cautivadora exploración de la historia, el patrimonio y la identidad fue comisionada por primera vez por el Tate Britain, en el Reino Unido, y debutó en Norteamérica en el ICA Watershed el martes 21 de mayo.
“La Procesión” estará en exhibición hasta el 2 de septiembre de 2024.
Me complace anunciar que el Centro Cultural @Veronica Robles será parte de “La Procesión”, explorando varias culturas de América Latina a través de un taller de fabricación de máscaras como parte de la Watershed Block Party el 13 de julio. Además, ofreceremos un taller de danza el 11 de agosto, centrado en los “Caporales de los Andes”, un programa educativo interactivo que brindará una descripción histórica y un taller de danza.
El objetivo de estos talleres es el de generar apreciación por la exhibición y su conexión con las culturas Latinoamericanas.
Las exhibición consiste en 140 esculturas enmascaradas muy elaboradas, adornadas con telas estampadas y bordados representando personas de todas las edades incluyendo reinas de carnaval caribeño, bailarines, refugiados, figuras militares a caballo, pescadores, trabajadores ordinarios, mujeres embarazadas, niños, tamborileros y abanderados, que invitan a la audiencia a sumergirse en las complejas narrativas de cada creación.
Las figuras de la procesión de Locke representan símbolos culturales, figuras históricas y elementos geopolíticos, ofreciendo una perspectiva única sobre el impacto duradero del colonialismo y las complejidades de la identidad
